About Grand Bazaar
The Grand Bazaar, begun in the winter of 1455/56 soon after the conquest of Istanbul, is one of the oldest and largest covered markets in the world, with 61 covered streets and more than 4,000 shops. It stretches between the Beyazıt and Nuruosmaniye mosques and is full of carpet, jewellery, ceramics, leather and spice shops. It is closed on Sundays and public holidays.

The bazaar is closed on Sundays and public holidays. Cars cannot enter; your driver drops you at the nearest point on the Beyazıt or Nuruosmaniye side and picks you up there on the way back. Bargaining is common; compare prices for larger purchases.
