About Topkapı Palace
Topkapı Palace was begun in 1459 on the orders of Mehmed the Conqueror and served for nearly four centuries as the residence and seat of government of the Ottoman sultans. It has been a museum since 1924. Four courtyards, the Harem with more than 400 rooms, the Sacred Relics, the treasury and one of the world's finest Chinese porcelain collections are on display. It stands right behind Hagia Sophia on Seraglio Point.

Visiting tips
The Harem may require a separate ticket; in high season go early in the morning. It is easy to combine with Hagia Sophia and the Basilica Cistern on the same day; cars approach the point closest to the entrance on the Gülhane side.
