About Galata Tower

Galata Tower is a medieval tower built by the Genoese in 1348; about 63 metres tall, it is the symbol of Beyoğlu. The observation deck at about 52 metres offers a 360-degree view of the Golden Horn, the Historic Peninsula and the Bosphorus; today the tower serves as a museum and exhibition space. Since its 2024 restoration, visitor numbers are limited by an hourly quota.

Highlights

  • 360° observation deck
  • Golden Horn and Bosphorus views
  • Kuledibi and Galata streets

Visiting tips

The streets around the tower are narrow and steep; your driver drops you at the nearest suitable point to Kuledibi. Because of the quota, go early in the morning or before sunset to shorten the queue. İstiklal Avenue and Karaköy are within walking distance.
