Visiting Ephesus from Selçuk
Ephesus has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2015 and is one of the most visited archaeological sites in Turkey. It has two entrances, the upper (Magnesian) gate and the lower (harbour) gate, and many visitors walk through the site downhill from one to the other. The Terrace Houses, with their mosaics and wall paintings, require a separate ticket. Tour coaches and cruise passengers from Kuşadası make the site and the roads around Selçuk busiest from late morning to midday, especially in summer.
Climate and best season in Selçuk
Selçuk has a typical Aegean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild, sometimes rainy winters. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons for sightseeing, as there is little shade among the ruins.
Beyond the ruins
In town, look out for the storks nesting on the Byzantine aqueduct. Şirince is known for its fruit wines and stone houses, while Pamucak beach and the resort town of Kuşadası are close by for a day at the sea.
