Exploring Kaleiçi on foot

Kaleiçi is best explored on foot. Its lanes are cobbled and in places steep, especially on the way down to the old harbour, so comfortable shoes help, and travellers with heavy luggage may prefer a hotel near the edge of the old town. Beyond the main landmarks, look out for the Clock Tower at Kalekapısı, the Kesik Minare (the "broken minaret") and the Suna & İnan Kıraç Kaleiçi Museum in a restored Ottoman house. Karaalioğlu Park, next to Hıdırlık Tower, is a popular spot for sunset views over the Gulf of Antalya and the Beydağları mountains.

Boat trips, beaches and the best season

Boat trips leave from the old harbour and follow the cliffs along the coast, many of them passing the Lower Düden Waterfall where it drops into the sea. For a full beach day, the long pebble beach of Konyaaltı lies west of the city centre and the sandy beaches of Lara to the east. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons for sightseeing; July and August are very hot in the city.
