About Ancient Side
Side is an ancient harbour city on a small peninsula in the Manavgat district of Antalya. It is believed to have been founded in the 7th century BC by Greek settlers from Cyme in Aeolis; 'side' meant pomegranate in the local language, and the fruit appears often on the city's coins. The modern village of Side is built among the ruins, so you explore the ancient city as you walk its streets. Key sights include the Hellenistic main gate, the 2nd-century AD theatre, the agora and the Temple of Apollo at the tip of the peninsula. A restored Roman bath houses the museum with Roman-period statues and sarcophagi.
Highlights
- Temple of Apollo columns at the peninsula tip

- Side Museum in a restored Roman bath

Visiting tips
The Temple of Apollo is calmer and cooler early in the morning and towards sunset; in the midday heat, plan breaks in the shade and carry water. The theatre may be closed to visitors for restoration, so check its current status and the museum's hours on the official website. Side is easy to combine in one day with Manavgat Waterfall or Aspendos.
