About Selinus Ancient City & Şekerhane Köşkü
Selinus is an ancient Cilician city on the coast of Gazipaşa, built on and around a hill overlooking the sea. The Roman emperor Trajan died here in AD 117 on his way back from the East, and the city was for a time called Traianopolis after him. The best-preserved ruin is a rectangular building known locally as Şekerhane Köşkü, interpreted by researchers as a temple to the Deified Trajan and a cenotaph. The fortress walls on the hill and the long beach below complete the visit.
Highlights

Visiting tips
The ruins are in the open with little shade; in summer go early in the morning or late afternoon and bring water and a hat. The path up the castle hill is stony and steep, so wear closed shoes. It is easy to combine the visit with a swim at the beach.
