About Dim River (Dimçayı)

The Dim River rises in the Taurus Mountains and flows about 60 km within Alanya's boundaries before reaching the Mediterranean at Tosmur beach in Kestel. From its source at Alacami it passes through a string of villages on its way to the sea. Its water stays cold in summer and winter alike, which makes the valley one of Alanya's favourite places to escape the heat. Along the road that follows the river there are many riverside restaurants and tea gardens, some with tables set on platforms right over the water. The area is also popular for picnics and rafting. Further upstream stands the Dim Dam, in service since 2007 for irrigation and hydroelectric power. Dim Cave overlooks the same valley.

Highlights

  • Mountain water that stays cold all year
  • Dining on platforms above the water
  • Riverside restaurants and tea gardens
  • Picnics and rafting
  • A green valley at the foot of the Taurus

Visiting tips

The water is very cold and fast-flowing in places, so take care when going in, especially with children. The valley can be busy at weekends and at midday in summer. It combines easily with Dim Cave on the same day.

How far is Dim River (Dimçayı) from my hotel?
By road approximately: Mahmutlar ~13 km (~20 min), Alanya ~17 km (~30 min), Konaklı ~25 km (~35 min), Avsallar ~37 km (~40 min), Gazipaşa-Alanya Airport ~43 km (~50 min), Okurcalar ~44 km (~45 min), Side ~79 km (~75 min). Times are estimates without traffic and can be longer at peak times in summer.

How much is the transfer, are tickets included?
The price depends on the vehicle class and is per vehicle, not per person; prices by area are in the table on this page, and the exact price for your hotel appears instantly in the booking form. Entrance tickets are not included.

How does the return work, does the driver wait?
The return is planned as a separate transfer: in a return booking you choose the return time and the vehicle comes to pick you up then, so you do not pay for waiting time.

Do you provide child seats?
Yes. Baby and child seats are free; just state the children's ages when booking.

Why is the Dim River so cold?
The river is fed from the high Taurus Mountains, so its water stays cold even on the hottest summer days. That is exactly what makes the valley so popular for cooling off in summer.

Can you visit the Dim River and Dim Cave on the same day?
Yes. Dim Cave sits on a slope overlooking the Dim valley and is reached by a paved road from the valley. Many visitors tour the cave in the morning and have lunch by the river.
