The centre is known for nightlife and restaurants, Mahmutlar, Oba and Kestel for apartments and residences, and Konaklı, Avsallar and Okurcalar for all-inclusive hotels. It suits young travellers, families and long-stay visitors.

Highlights

  • Alanya Castle
  • Red Tower (Kızıl Kule)
  • Cleopatra Beach
  • Damlataş Cave

The route

From the airport the route follows the D400 highway east past Serik, the Belek junction, Manavgat and the Side junction, then continues via Okurcalar, Avsallar and Konaklı to Alanya.

Arrival & departure tip

This is one of the longest transfer routes on the Antalya coast, and the passage through Manavgat can get congested in summer. On the way back, leave your hotel with plenty of time before your flight.

  • Tersane: the Seljuk shipyard next to the Red Tower, with vaulted docks built into the rock at the water's edge.
  • Boat trips around the peninsula: excursions from the harbour visit sea caves below the castle cliffs, such as the Pirates' Cave and the Lovers' Cave.

When to go and practical tips for Alanya

Alanya has one of the longest seasons on the Turkish Riviera: the sea is warm enough for swimming from about May to October, and the mild winters attract many long-stay visitors, especially from Northern Europe.

Some flights to the area land at Gazipaşa-Alanya Airport (GZP), east of the town, rather than at Antalya, so check which airport is on your ticket before booking your transfer. If you are staying in an apartment in Mahmutlar, Kestel or Oba, give the full address including the building or complex name so the driver can take you straight to the door.
